  • Combined Roundtable April 19 at 12:00 PM

    Join us this Friday from 12:00 - 1:30 PM for an intriguing conversation with representatives from the San Marcos Growers proposed development in Santa Barbara and a representative from the County Housing Authority. This discussion will help us get a bigger picture of housing affordability plans within these proposals.

  • April 18: Speak Out to Save Southern California Steelhead

    April 18 is the time to speak up to save Southern California steelhead during the California Fish and Game Commission meeting at 8:30 AM.
     
    Santa Barbara County Action Network has joined CalTrout in calling for Southern California steelhead to be listed as endangered under California's Endangered Species Act. On April 18, the FGC will provide an opportunity for the public to make comments before voting on whether to list Southern California steelhead as endangered.
  • SBCAN and EDC victory: SY Valley ag land preserved!

    Santa Barbara County Action Network and the Environmental Defense Center (EDC) celebrate a big win for preservation of agricultural land in the Santa Ynez Valley!
     
    The developers of Rancho La Laguna recently withdrew their appeal, leaving in place a Superior Court decision in favor of preserving agriculture.
  • Speak out against Cruise Ship impacts April 9 at 2:00 PM

    SBCAN stands with Santa Barbara Channelkeeper in urging Santa Barbara to put limits on cruise ship visits and their impacts. The Santa Barbara City Council is expected to take final action on recommendations to reshape the City’s Cruise Ship Program at its April 9, 2024, meeting (City Hall, Council Chambers- 735 Anacapa Street). The Council meeting will begin at 2:00 PM and should be the most critical step in this 2-year public review.

    It is imperative that our community participates. Please plan to attend in person! If you are unable to attend in person, written comments and participation via zoom are available to show your support. Read more about this initiative here. 

  • FREE Summer Day Camp for Guadalupe and SM 6th-8th graders

    Do you know any middle school students in Santa Maria or Guadalupe who would like to attend a FREE five-day outdoor adventure program in June? 

    Central Coast Youth Environmental Stewardship Program (CC YES) 

    Creek Lands Conservation (CLC) has developed a free summer day camp for underserved students that reside in Guadalupe and Santa Maria. The five camp days will take place at various locations within San Luis Obispo County starting on June 10. There will be three one-week sessions serving 10 sixth- to eighth-grade students each week.

    The Central Coast Youth Environmental Stewardship Program is five-day outdoor adventure-based, environmental and climate literacy program prioritizing students from under-resourced communities.

  • Save Southern steelhead from extinction!

    Sign a petition by April 4 to save Southern California steelhead from extinction!
     
    Our allies at California Trout have asked us to spread the word about an important decision in front of the California Fish and Game Commission.
     
    They are calling for Southern California steelhead to be listed as endangered under California's Endangered Species Act.

  • County rezone workshop and SM firefighters picket

    Two events for your consideration today:
    1. Public comment welcome at Board of Supervisor’s Rezone Developer Workshop at 2 p.m.
    2. Santa Maria firefighters ask public to join them as they picket Santa Maria City Hall at 4:30 p.m.

    Board of Supervisor’s Rezone Developer Workshop
    Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 2 p.m.

    The public is welcome to comment in person at the Betteravia Center or the Planning Commission Hearing Room in Santa Barbara. There will not be ability to comment via Zoom for this workshop.

    The Board has released the agenda for their workshop. Owners/agents for some of the potential rezone sites will present the Board with their visions for development of housing and community amenities on their sites.
