United to Stop the Kroger-Albertsons Merger

Kroger and Albertsons: A Grocery Consolidation Disaster · American Economic Liberties Project

Tell the Federal Trade Commission to stop the mega-merger before it’s too late!

LESS COMPETITION IN THE GROCERY INDUSTRY
WILL LEAD TO:

Higher prices
for customers

Workers losing
their jobs

Farmers and suppliers unable
to sell their products

“My town only has two standalone grocery stores. If one closes and we only have one option, it will be a monopoly which means this new grocery company could raise food prices to exorbitant amounts. If the prices for essential goods go up, how are people who are lower income or middle income going to be able to survive? Many people who work at my store live paycheck to paycheck, including parents with small children and single moms.”

“This merger could have devastating consequences - my co-workers and I would be out of a job if they wanted to close stores and my customers would struggle to get fresh food. My store is in one of the poorer areas of the community and so many of my customers are already on food assistance. There are not a lot of grocery store options, so I don't know what people will do if my store closes, or if they raise prices on products because of the merger. Prices have already gone through the roof, so this will completely debilitate my customers. We can't let our sense of security with our jobs be ripped away and given to corporate greed.”

“My customers have become my family over the years. Same with my co-workers. I’ve seen their families grow up and create new families, their kids go off to college and get good jobs. I’m so afraid for my friends, my coworkers and my customers, because if this merger goes through, it will be devastating for both workers and customers, but Kroger and Albertsons executives just don’t care.”

“If the merger of Kroger and Albertsons is approved it will be harmful to thousands of workers and the communities they work and live in. Customers are already facing rising costs of food and basic necessities. This acquisition will lead to further food price increases, store closures and will create food deserts.”
