Roundtables for February 2023

Our guest speakers for the roundtables this month will discuss industrial fish farming, housing developments, homelessness solutions, and the Draft County Housing Element Update. Zoom registration links for both meetings are below.

AGENDA
  1. Call to Order Introductions; Agenda Review (5 min.)
  2. Industrial Fish Farming - Jake Schwartz from Don't Cage Our Oceans will discuss the planned fish farms coming to federal waters off the California coast. We will discuss the environmental and social justice concerns with the farms, and the fight in the legislature to stop it from happening. (25 min.)
  3. Solomon Hills - Jackson Washburn and Valeria Cantella from the Solomon Hills development team will discuss this potential housing project. On March 1st the Planning Commission will decide whether or not to initiate the project. (25 min.)
  4. Hope Village - Matt Riley and Jack Lorenz from Dignity Moves will present about this transitional housing solution in North County (25 min.) 
  5. Updates from participants. Please let us know if there are items you want to bring up. (2 to 5 min. each)

  1. Call to Order Introductions; Agenda Review
  2. Bailard Ave Workforce Housing Project - Brent Little from Red Tail Multifamily Land Development and John Polanskey form the County Housing Authority will present about their proposed workforce housing project just outside of the Carpinteria city limits. The project will go to the County Planning Commission on February 22nd for Initiation. 
  3. County Housing Element Update - Director Lisa Plowman will present about the County's Draft Housing Element Update which was released last week. Comments are due by March 1st. 
  4. Updates from participants. Please let us know if there are items you want to bring up. (2 to 5 min. each)
