UC Grad Student Strike and Jail Reform at SC Roundtable this Fri., Nov. 18th

This Friday, November 18th at noon SBCAN will discuss the UC graduate student worker strike. Yesterday 48,000 workers across all ten UC campuses started the largest academic strike in the history of the nation. We will also hear from folks at the League of Women Voters of Santa Barbara (LWVSB) and Clergy & Laity for Economic Justice (CLUE) about their petition to transform criminal justice in Santa Barbara County.

  1. Call to Order Introductions; Agenda Review
  2. LWVSB/CLUE Criminal Justice Reform Petition - Our partners at LWVSB and CLUE are gathering support for their petition to reduce numbers in the county jails to improve the criminal justice system in Santa Barbara County. 
  3. UC Grad Student Worker Strike - Yesterday graduate students across all ten UC campuses began the largest academic strike in U.S. history. We will hear from union representatives and faculty about the demands of the union and how we can support.
  4. Updates from participants. Please let us know if there are items you want to bring up. (2 to 5 min. each)
  5. Our next meetings are to be determined and will be via Zoom.
