April 18: Speak Out to Save Southern California Steelhead

April 18 is the time to speak up to save Southern California steelhead during the California Fish and Game Commission meeting at 8:30 AM.

Santa Barbara County Action Network has joined CalTrout in calling for Southern California steelhead to be listed as endangered under California's Endangered Species Act. On April 18, the FGC will provide an opportunity for the public to make comments before voting on whether to list Southern California steelhead as endangered.

  • The meeting starts at 8:30am with agenda item #11.
  • The petition to list Southern steelhead under California’s Endangered Species Act (CESA) is agenda item #22.
  • Raise your hand to speak on this item once the commission staff opens the queue for public comment for agenda item #22.

CalTrout Senior Project Manager Russell Marlow said public comment can make a difference:

"I can say from having attended FGC meetings for the past three years  – I am always amazed at how much impact public comments have on the FGC Commissioners," Marlow said. "They know CalTrout will be there saying Act Now. But when 5 or 10 people show up (log on – it’s virtual) and demand they take action to prevent the loss of this incredible species, you can see them accept the gravity of their responsibility."

We encourage you to join the meeting and voice your support for listing Southern California steelhead. Your participation is crucial to ensure these fish receive the protections they need!
