Show up for housing affordability in Santa Maria this week and next week. The Santa Maria Housing Element Update is underway. This process will help determine housing policy in Santa Maria for the next nine years.
The City of Santa Maria is hosting Fair Housing workshops this week and next week to hear from community members what they would like to see in the Housing Element Update.
The workshops will be in person at:
- Thursday October 27, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m., Maramonte Community Center, 620 East Sunrise Drive
- Friday October 28, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., Grogan Community Center, 1155 West Rancho Verde
- Thursday, November 3, 3:00 – 4:30 p.m., Santa Maria Public Library, Shepard Hall, 421 South McClelland Street
The main points to be uplifted are that housing is becoming increasingly unaffordable in Santa Maria and it needs to be addressed by the council. Also, the workshops were scheduled with very little notice, without a virtual option, and without an evening or weekend option so the community will not be accurately represented in these meetings.
